Carr offers a startling new view of why we drink and how we can escape the addiction. Step by step, with devastating clarity and simplicity, he applies the Easyway™ method, dispelling all the illusions that surround the subject of drinking and that can make it almost impossible to imagine a life without alcohol. Only when we step away from all these supposed pleasures and understand how we are being duped to believe we are receiving real benefits can we begin to live our lives free from any desire or need for drinking. The Easyway™ method centers on removing the psychological need to drink—while the drinker is still drinking. Following the Easyway™: • You will not need willpower • You will not feel deprived • You will lose your fear of withdrawal pangs • You will enjoy social occasions more • You will be better equipped to handle stress The Easy Way to Stop Drinking is a landmark work that offers a simple and painless solution to anyone who wants to escape from dependency on alcohol without feeling deprived.

Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely irresponsible. Comment: I am a die hard anti-AA former alcoholic. I say this because I do not believe alcoholism is a disease, nor do I believe addiction is a disease as well.
That said, this book is absolutely medically irresponsible, even extremely dangerous. I say this because Carr states that alcohol withdrawal is purely psychosomatic.
Let me set this one straight:
Heroin withdrawal will not kill you.
Alcohol withdrawal ABSOLUTELY CAN KILL YOU. Through A VARIETY OF SYNERGISTIC METHODS.
#1. The body metabolizes alcohol as it would fat. The body, depleted of Glucose in the blood, does whats called a glycogen dump- it literally dumps all the stored sugar from the liver into the bloodstream. This actually depletes the body of stored energy, putting the body into Keto Acidosis. Ask a diabetic what this is. Think of the Atkins Diet on steroids- once the body has no sugar of its own, it starts literally eating itself.
#2. Alcohol depletes the body of virtually all necessary vitamins- most notably, thiamin (B-1), potassium, sodium, magnesium, to name a few. This, in conjunction of #1, can cause severe atrial afibrilliation.
#3. The body, dependent on alcohol as a nutrient, essentially goes into shock when it no longer has alcohol to "survive" on.
#4. The body starts shaking uncontrollably, as the neurons start literally haywire without Potassium, Sodium, and Magnesium to properly regulate the heart.
#5. Respiration, which is not merely breathing, but the entire system of introduction and expulsion of toxic gases involving virtually every organ of the body, shuts down.
#6. The Heart begins to shut down due to a combined imbalance of sodium and potassium, electrolytes which regulate what is called the K-,+, S-,S+ Pump.
#7. This in effect creates a recursive self reinforcing feedback loop.
All of this can be slowed down and postponed by either taking another drink (ever see an alcoholic shaking and/or holding a drink at the bar with 2 hands?)...OR...
A quick onset, longer acting sedative (Ativan is preferred these days, second is librium).
Ask any medical professional who has ever worked at an ER- In terms of urgency of treatment, Alcohol withdrawal is right up there with heart attack and stroke.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just go ahead and buy this one Comment: I am about to celebrate my 4th year of sobriety, due primarily to this book. Normally I don't write bother to write reviews, but this book made such a profoundly positive impact on my life I feel compelled to do so. I knew alcohol was hurting my health and my relationships, but I just enjoyed it so much at the time that I couldn't imagine living without it. Somehow, after reading the book, I just had no desire to drink anymore, and I easily and painlessly quit cold turkey (still quite unbelievable to me as I write this given the extent of my alcohol abuse). For me, the idea of AA or the like was simply too unappealing to really consider, although obviously many people benefit from it. Maybe this works for you and maybe it doesn't, but if you are reading this and think perhaps your drinking is becoming an issue, you would be foolish not to spend the small amount of money and time required to check this book out.
Customer Rating: Summary: For me, it works!!! Comment: I just finished this book yesterday. I think it's going to work for me. I woke up this morning with a feeling of euphoria and actually said, "I'm free!!!"
I had really wanted to be free of the alchohol trap but did not know how. Alan Carr gives you the tools to do this. And the confidence that you CAN do it and will not be missing out on anything. I now realize this.
I had tried to cut down on my drinking several times and had hoped I would be able to be a responsible "moderate" drinker. However, it took me the whole book to realize that this is not possible. The trap is too tricky. The best thing is to GET OUT and LIVE YOUR LIFE!!! Near the end of the book, I decided that I was going to stop drinking alcohol entirely. It was the most liberating decision I have ever made. No more hangovers, no more feeling like crap, no more wondering what embarrassing things I did the night before....
I even went through the ritual of having a "last drink" as he recommends. I did not even enjoy my usual glass of wine and could not finish it. I just wanted to be free of alcohol so much that I sipped it slowly and poured what I could not finish down the drain. This morning I woke up to a new world of possibilites and hope.
If you are on the fence about whether or not you want to stop drinking entirely, I would give this book a try. I was. Now I feel like I'm free of that mess of addiction and abuse to my body. Time will tell if this method will work for the rest of my life, but right now I have no reason to think it will not!
Customer Rating: Summary: I still don't know what Easyway is, but it is working for me. Comment: Hello, After being a "social drinker" for the last 17 years and constantly craving "a few beers", it's hard to believe it's all gone. When I began reading the book I was skeptical about the books effectiveness and if I wanted to quit in the first place. By simply following the instructions and being open minded, I am happy to say that I have quit drinking. I feel like I have lost NOTHING and gained SO MUCH.
To all the doubters and/or bad reviewers, chances are you either had no geniune intention of quitting, and most importantly you did not follow the instructions of the book. If you follow the instructions and are open minded this will work for you. So, please before writing anything negative about this wonderful method, please look in the mirror first and see where the 1 star rating truly belongs. For everyone else, best wishes on your new life of feeling great, having more time, more money, better motivation, improved confidence, improved physical and mental health, and on and on.
Customer Rating: Summary: I am so excited I found this book! Comment: I have read a few bad reviews on this book, but after reading it I am convinced these other readers just didn't take the time to absorb what was being said. This book is certainly NOT fluff. Every word is written in just the right way and at just the right time. Every thought I had that came up to refute what he was saying, he addressed right then. It was weird! It was like he was there inside my head.
I attended AA in the past but always ended up drinking again. The reason? I was never what you would call a rock-bottom alcoholic, I don't believe a "higher power" can save me, and I hated the concept that I would be labeled an alcholic for the rest of my life. This book was written for ME!
The author takes each excuse that I've made for drinking or wanting to drink, and talked about that area so thoroughly that my mind was changed. Yes, just like that! He urges readers not to quit drinking while reading the book because he wants you to prove to yourself that what he is saying is true. The drinking experience is completely different armed with this information.
I wish I could nail down exactly what he said or did that changed me, but I can't. All I can say is that it DID change me. I think that others who are expecting some sort of "trick" like pinching your earlobe when you crave a drink, or pulling out a list of reasons why drinking can ruin your life are looking at this all wrong. There is no trick! But, there is also NO REASON THIS HAS TO BE SO HARD.
I agree that although AA is a wonderful organization and has helped MANY alcoholics cope, it has a low success rate and is not made for those of us with differing beliefs. The Easy Way is REALLY easy. I am very happy I found this book. A huge weight is lifted off my shoulders, and quitting drinking is now a FUN prospect, not one of misery or self-denial. It's actually saying YES to fun, love, and life.
